Help Protect the Home of the UK's Longest-Running Labyrinth Walk
The University of Dundee is currently consulting on a series of significant cost-saving measures. Among the proposals is the loss of staff at the Chaplaincy Centre, placing the future of this remarkable building in doubt.
For over fifty years, the Chaplaincy has been much more than a university building. Since opening in 1974 it has been a place of welcome, support, community, reflection and culture for students, staff and the wider city.
It is also home to the UK's longest-running regular labyrinth walk.
The University began offering labyrinth walks in November 1998, and I have had the privilege of leading them voluntarily since 2008, without interruption. Even during the Covid pandemic, the walks continued online. Over the years they have become a valued source of peace, reflection and wellbeing for countless people.
A labyrinth is not a maze. There are no wrong turns, no dead ends, and no expectation that you believe any particular philosophy or faith. Walking the winding path offers time to slow down, reflect, find calm and work through life's challenges. For many people, it has become an important part of their wellbeing, and for some it has been deeply healing.
The Dundee labyrinth walks have always been free, open to everyone, and offered without agenda. Whether you are religious, spiritual, atheist or simply curious, you are welcome. What matters is that people have access to a safe, peaceful space where they can pause, reflect and reconnect with themselves.
If the Chaplaincy building is lost, this unique tradition could disappear with it.
We are asking for your support.
